
DMT – DIVER MEDIC TECHNICIAN COURSE

Course Details
This course is IMCA-approved for commercial diving operations worldwide and presented through INTERDIVE in collaboration with JACKS DIVE CHEST. The course is very intensive and emphasizes practical skills and competence. This course is mandatory for diving supervisors working in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and a requirement for at least 2 Diver Medics on air and mixed gas/saturation diving sites under the IMCA Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) for commercial diving operations.
KIRBY MORGAN MAINTENANCE & REPAIR HAT TECHNICIAN COURSE
Duration: 3 Days
Course Details
This course is designed to teach commercial divers, tenders, and technicians in the performance of routine maintenance, annual inspections, and repairs on Kirby Morgan Helmets and Band Masks. It equips divers with the skills to inspect, maintain, perform repairs, and understand when repairs should be done by authorized dealers or those with further training. Note that face port insert replacement and fiberglass and gel coat repair must be completed by an authorized KMDSI dealer trained in these processes.
HYPERBARIC CHAMBER OPERATOR COURSE
Duration: 5 Days
Course Details
A Hyperbaric Chamber Operator administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. They document treatment details, operate hyperbaric chambers, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This course provides an in-depth understanding of Decompression Sickness, quick neurological assessments, and treatment tables used in hyperbaric care.
FIRST AID TRAINING
Despite all the best training and planning, sometimes unexpected situations occur. Divers and professionals may be called upon to intervene due to environmental conditions, medical emergencies, or accidents. To ensure preparedness, Jacks Dive Chest offers training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Oxygen Administration, and First Aid for the workplace. Our first aid courses are accredited by T.E.T.A and QTCO, as well as the Department of Employment and Labour. The courses are designed to cover a wide range of topics including managing the scene of an emergency, basic human anatomy and physiology, as well as the primary and secondary survey. The goal is to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide medical support to the public or workplace.

What are the requirements for enrolling in the course?
Must be 18 years of age, be able to speak and write in English, be able to do simple math, be able to swim, and be examined by a Diving Medical doctor registered with the Department of Labour to obtain a Medical certificate stating that you are fit to dive.
How do I pay for training?
You’ll need to pay a deposit beforehand to secure your place on the course and then pay the outstanding amount before the beginning of the first day of the course.
Full payment is strictly non-refundable except for a student not passing his medical.
If you want to take out a student loan from your local bank, we will supply you with an acceptance letter that you can take to your bank.
Are there any additional costs?
Contact our finance department via email to confirm if there are any additional fees. Remember to have some spending money if you wish to go out on weekends or buy something you might need.
Where can I obtain the basic dive gear?
We do have diving gear for you to rent while on course; however if you prefer having your own or would like the gear to fit you perfectly, we suggest you get a 7mm wetsuit. It can be bought in most dive shops, but for a custom fit, the best place is Coral Wetsuits in Cape Town.
Please arrange this one week before the course as this needs to be made. The rest of the gear, including mask, snorkel, gloves, booties, fins, knife, and weight belt, can also be bought in any dive shop or at our shop in the Strand.
What to bring with?
* WETSUIT * BOOTIES * FINS * MASK * Clothing – Especially something warm. * Toiletries. * Sunscreen and after-sun. * Beach hat/cricket hat. * Water bottle. * Swimming shorts and towels.
You must also bring the following documentation, per course, to complete your DEOL registration as speedily as possible:
* X4 ID photos * X2 Copies of passport or South African Identity Document * X2 Copies of visa (Foreign Students only) * X1 Copy of Diving Medical Certificate signed by a registered “Diving Doctor” / DMO.
Transport from the Airport?
We will collect you at the airport or bus stop. Just send us your ticket details—arrival time, etc. We will transport you to and from the school and the dive sites.
